Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) & OpenCourseWare (OCW)
MOOCs are a fairly recent trend in education on the Internet available to anyone in the world. Nowadays, you can learn almost any subject at a very high level wherever you are, as long as you have an Internet connection. Some of these courses require payment, but many do not.
OCW is another term for MOOCs, but the focus is on providing content for teachers. If you're a student, you look for a MOOC. If you're a teacher, you look for OCW to provide content to students. In many cases, the content of a MOOC and the content of OCW will be identical. Link to article on the differences. Or read this one in Japanese. |
