Hi, everyone. Remember, we're looking at movies, videos, TV and trailers to see if they help us to study English, OK? We don't need to review the movies, except to say that they're good or not good for studying English. - Kevin

I recommend watching trailers on YouTube. YouTube has an app that probably everyone has used, so it's easy to find videos you want to watch. And there are so many dramas and movies on YouTube. Even people who like minor movies and dramas can enjoy it. And you can change the speed of the videos and turn the subtitles on and off. Therefore, it's recommended for both those who want to learn words and those who want to study listening. I watched my favorite movie Zodiac on YouTube. I learned to call an unknown man "dude" in slang. In addition, there were many words that can be learned only in movies, such as "gun range", "suspect", and "crime". It's fresh and fun. This is the nice thing about subtitle trailers. I like crime and cyber movies, and I didn't know these words at all until I saw those movies. Watching a movie allows you to learn words in your favorite genre. It's fun to learn, so you can continue studying. If you keep looking at the same genre, the words you remember once will appear many times, so you can absorb words and understand them even at native speed. These are also good points.

I always watch movies using Amazon Prime Video or Netflix. But this time I watched a trailer using IMDb because I have heard about the site several times but had never used it before.
IMDb has an app, so you can also use it on your smartphone or tablet. That site contains all kinds of information. You can watch various movies, videos and trailers. And in most movies and videos, you can also watch interview videos of actors. There are no subtitles in those videos, so it is difficult to understand the content, but i think you can improve your listening skills. Also, it is possible to rewind the videos for 10 seconds on the IMDb on the website, it also allows you to expand the video screen and change the video speed, so the website may be easier to use.
I watched the trailer for the TV series Game of Thrones. I learned two words from the trailer. The first is "terrify". It means "ひどく怖がらせる・恐怖でいっぱいにする" in Japanese and "to fill with terror or alarm" in English. The second is "reside". It means "属する・与えられている" in Japanese and "belong to a person or body" in English. [Please check the definition of 'reside' again. The most common meaning is 'to live (in a place)', as in 'I reside in Yokohama.' Maybe you know the word 'residence', which is related.]
I think not only watching movies and videos but also watching trailers is a good way to learn English. I want to be able to understand the content smoothly by listening to English audio without subtitles.

I often watch dramas and movies on Netflix. I think watching dramas and movies is the most accessible opportunity for me to learn English in my daily life. This time, I watched a movie trailer on Netflix. The name of the movie is Lost Girls. On Netflix, there are subtitles for each trailer, so just watching the movie or drama trailer that you are interested in will help you learn English. And also, if you watch a movie or drama, there is a very useful and wonderful function that displays both Japanese and English subtitles at the same time [This function has a name. Do you know it? You should write it.]. Also, you can know the meaning of words in the sentence if you click on it. I think it’s the most convenient and enjoyable way to study English to use Netflix if you like to watch movies or dramas.
I learned two new words from trailer of Lost Girls on Netflix. The first one is “vigil”. This means “a period of keeping awake during the time usually spend asleep, especially to keep watch or pray” and “夜警” in Japanese. The second one is “accountability”. This means “the fact or condition of being accountable” and “説明責任” in Japanese.

I often watch movies on Amazon Prime Video, but this time, I used websites called Watch Mojo and Rotten Tomatoes.
On Watch Mojo, you can see the top 10 or 20 lists in a variety of genres, including music, TV, movies, and more. The videos on this site don’t have subtitles, but they have scripts, so you can watch the scripts while listening to the narration. The speed of narration is fast, and the script makes it easier to understand.
Rotten Tomatoes is a famous international movie review site with many movie trailers. It is also reviewed and ranked by people who have seen the movies. The site allows you to customize presets, text, borders, and background with some subtitles so you can change them as you see it.
I watched "Top 10 Movies of All Time" on Watch Mojo, and "Everything Everywhere All at Once" on Rotten Tomatoes. I found two words from these websites. The first is “fortitude”. It means “courage in pain or adversity.”, and “不屈の精神” in Japanese. The second is “gasp”. It means “a convulsive catching of breath.”, and “息切れ” in Japanese.

I usually watch movies and dramas on Netflix and Amazon Prime. I often use YouTube and Netflix to watch trailers, but this time I used Rotten Tomatoes, a popular movie website, so I will introduce them.
Rotten Tomatoes is a site where you can watch trailers for movies and dramas. If you click on the title of your favorite movie or drama, you can see not only the trailer, but also the information, cast, reviews, critics and ordinary people scores, and more. Also, I think one of the features of this site is that you can easily see the reviews of critics and ordinary people at the same time.
I watched the trailer of "Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts" and I learned two new words. The first word is "reminisce", it means remembering the past and talking about memories, and "追憶する、思い出を語る" in Japanese. Second, I learned "meaningful", which means what makes sense in life, and "意味のある、有意義な" in Japanese.
Trailers can be seen in a short amount of time, so I think they are a good way to improve my listening skills.

I often watch movies and dramas on Netflix. There are a lot of trailers. I didn’t know that there a lot of websites related to movies, so I will introduce IMDb.
This site has a lot of movie and drama trailers from different countries. For example Japan, USA, Korea and so on. IMDb has an app and if you sign in to IMDb you can make a watch list. You can save shows and movies to keep track of what you want to watch. It is very useful. There are episode guides. It is so detailed. But sometimes there are no subtitles on the trailers, so it is very difficult to understand for people who are not very good at English. However, some trailers have subtitles.
I watched the trailers for Stranger Things and ’Shingeki No Kyojin. [How can you learn English by watching a Japanese trailer?] I learned two words. First I learned ‘’confront’’. Its meaning is" face, oppose" and 撃退、当面する in Japanese. Second I learned ‘’annihilate’’. Its meaning is "kill, slay" and 絶滅させる、殺す in Japanese.
I will use this site because it is easy to know some information of movies and dramas.

I often use Netflix to watch movies and dramas. I also often watch Netflix trailers, but this time I want to introduce a website called WatchMojo, which I first learned about in last year's film seminar class about the many different types of movie websites!
WatchMojo is a website where you open the website, and a lot of topics appear. You can choose what interest you. You can speedily see the ranking up to top 10 or top 20. There are no subtitles, but there are scripts. I learned a new word by watching "Another Top 10 Cartoon Shows for Adults." "Massive" means "huge," and in Japanese it means大規模.
Unlike trailers, WatchMojo features a lot of works in one video, which is a very good point as it allows you to find which movies you are interested in quickly. Also, there are scripts so that you can look back and watch them if you don't understand them. The reading speed is fast, so beginners and experts alike can enjoy watching. I think this is a great opportunity to learn English in a fun way.

I usually watch movies on Amazon Prime, Netflix, and dTV. They are very suitable for watching movies, but not all have reviews. So I will introduce a site where I can see reviews from various people called Rotten Tomatoes. "Rotten tomatoes" means "腐ったトマト" in Japanese. It was named after an audience dissatisfied with the poor performance threw rotten tomatoes and other vegetables onto the stage. On this site, you can see reviews of movies from various genres including upcoming movies, already famous works, and Pixar works by Disney. Before you look at all the reviews, you can see at a glance whether there are many positive or negative reviews. There is an illustration of tomatoes along with the numbers, but if the numbers are high, fresh tomatoes are drawn, and if the numbers are low, rotten tomatoes are written in green. For example, let's take a look at Pixar's Toy Story by Disney. They recommend not only reviews, but also works similar to the works and works that you may like. You can also find out on which site you can see the work, and there are previews and casts of the movie. This is not just a Toy Story, but you can also see the details of other works in the same way. When it comes to reviews, it is clear who wrote it when and how.
The good thing about this site is that it has a lot of other things besides reviews, and it's also easy to understand. The reviews are easy to see, but I think it's very easy to see that you don't have to look at all the reviews to understand the evaluation by the numbers and tomato illustrations.
I learned two words from this site. The first word is "reinvigorated". "Reinvigorated" means "活力を取り戻した" in Japanese. It is used when you feel down and recover your energy. The second word is "tremendous". "Tremendous" means "絶大,巨大な" in Japanese. It is used to indicate the size of an object.

I often watch movies and dramas on Netflix. There are so many movies in the video distribution service that I can't decide which one to watch. So I suggest you choose a movie using a site called Rotten Tomatoes. Rotten Tomatoes has many reviews of movies and dramas, so you can learn about popular movies and dramas around the world. There are also comments., so you can learn more about what's good about it. You can also see previews of movies and dramas. If you search for a movie you like, you can find out the content and cast of the movie.
I watched Hustle "HUSTLE" [please don't use all caps; ans please use italics for book and movie titles] on Rotten Tomatoes. I learned two words from this site. The first one is "fairly". It means "かなり" in Japanese and "with justice" in English. The second one is "doubt". It means "疑問に思う" in Japanese and "a feeling of uncertainty or lack of conviction" in English.
I didn't know there was a site where movies were evaluated. From now on, when I watch movies, I want to use this site to see the ones with high reviews. I thought I'd look into the movies I'm interested in and see what kind of reviews they give me. I want to use this site to watch many movies.

I recommend using DVDs or Netflix to learn English. First, I’m going to talk about DVDs. Currently, it’s common to watch movies on subscription services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime, but DVDs also have a lot of good points. Most DVDs can add both English subtitles and native subtitles at the same time. This method will improve your listening and reading skills. I sometimes find expressions in movies that I can’t understand just by listening. For example, in the Titanic movie, there is a line “I saw that in Nickelodeon and always wanted to do it.”. Nickelodeon means a television channel for children in the United States. I didn’t know about this channel. In this way, you can meet new expressions and words by add English subtitles. [Chika, what you wrote is cute and funny, but it's also wrong. What Jack said was, "I saw that in a nickelodeon and always wanted to do it." A nickelodeon was an old style movie theater. You had to pay a coin (like a nickel) and you could watch a short film in the earliest days of movie theaters. There is also a kids' TV show for children called Nickelodeon, but that did not appear until 1979. The Titanic sank in 1912, which is 67 years earlier. TV had not been invented yet, so Jack could not have seen the kid's show Nickelodeon.]
Next, I’m going to talk about Netflix. Netflix has a lot of movies, dramas and anime. You can view English subtitles with the movies. You can also add two subtitles at the same time, but it’s a little difficult to set two subtitles. On Netflix, most movies have trailers to preview.
I watched the trailer for Catch Me If You Can on Netflix and learned some new words. The first word is “figure out”. This means “理解する、わかる” in Japanese and “understand, comprehend” in English. The second word is “split”. This means “分裂させる、分ける” in Japanese and “break, divide” in English.

I sometimes watch movies at the movie theatre. I go to the movie theatre if I became interested after watching the movie trailer. Movie trailers are often seen on YouTube. I often watch YouTube ads and interesting works to search the trailer. YouTube will show you the latest movies and recommended works for myself. I saw the movie trailer this time is 007 NO TIME TO DIE on YouTube and IMDb. On YouTube, we can freely change the speed and image quality of watching videos. YouTube is used by many people, so it's the best way to easily watch the trailer. On IMDb, we can watch trailers for various movies from Japanese and American movies. We can watch not only movies but also TV shows and movie news. We can also see information about movies that will be coming soon, so it's a good idea to look at information about movies that interest you.
I learned two words from this movie. First, I learned “villains”. It means “enemy, rouge” [?] in English and “悪党,敵” in Japanese. Second, I learned “eradicate”. It means “extinguish, exterminate” in English and “根絶する,絶やす” in Japanese.

Nowadays I often watch movies on sites like Netflix or Amazon Prime, but I also go to the cinema. Before I go to the cinema, I look for movies that look interesting on a website called Movie Tickets. The features of this site include the director of the movie, showing times, box office receipts, and ticket sales dates. In addition, if you register your location, the site will introduce you to movies that are being shown. [Really? Did you try this? I tried and I don't think it works in Japan.] Therefore, you can find a movie that suits you. This site not only includes trailers but also a synopsis, which explains the movie in a more understandable way. In addition, there is also "Tomatometer," which contains reviews by critics and an audience score which is a rating that describes the audience's impressions, so you can easily find movies that look interesting. [By the way, these ratings come from the website Rotten Tomatoes.] The site specializes in movies, and it describes not only movies that are currently playing in theaters, but also upcoming movies and older movies. Recently, a movie with Tom Cruise called Top Gun: Maverick has been highly acclaimed. This movie is a sequel to the previous one released in 1986, 36 years after the last one. I would like to go see this movie as it is highly anticipated by many.

I often watch movies on video streaming services. When I watch a movie, I watch the trailer and decide what kind of movie I want to watch. This time I will introduce a website called Rotten Tomatoes where you can watch a lot of movie and drama trailers. You can can try to find one you are interested in, or you can choose from the ranking of popular movies and dramas. In addition to trailers, you can also view information and reviews of the films. English subtitles can be added to the videos, so even if you have difficulty listening, this feature will help you.
I watched the trailer for Old and I learned two new words. The first is “rust”. It means “錆びる” in Japanese. The definition in English is “to become or cause something to become covered with rust; oxidize”. The second is “decompose”. It means “腐敗する” in Japanese. The definition in English is ”become putrid”.
With Rotten Tomatoes, I can work on my listening skills while watching trailers. I want to use this site as a way to learn English by using both with and without subtitles.

I don't watch many movies, but I often watch trailers. When I watch the trailer, I use YouTube,. YouTube has an app that everyone knows, so it's easy to use. You can watch your favorite videos and movies and use them to study. YouTube has a happy function [?]. That is a recommended display. I learned the expression, “Don’t even think about ~” In this case, it means “absolutely no” [?] It means “〜しようなんて考えるな、絶対ダメ” in Japanese. I rarely watch movies, but when I saw the trailer of this movie, I was surprised to find something so interesting. Also, the more famous movies are, the easier the English teacher to understand the difficult lines, introduces them on YouTube, so you can do everything on YouTube. I use many apps when researching a movie and when watching trailers. One of them is IMDb, which I recommend for learning English. This app is the world's number one movie website, with over 250 million combined web and mobile visitors each month. It has three features: first, you can watch many videos related to the movie from the trailers. Second, you can watch the ratings of the films. Because of the large number of visitors, you can see what people from all over the world think of the film. By reading their impressions, you can also practiceEnglish reading. Third, you can see information such as how many films a character has appeared in. In the case of dramas, specific episodes and even the number of appearances are indicated. This makes it very convenient to search for episodes when you want to see only your favorite characters.
This time I browsed the "Stranger Things 4" page. There are two words I learned this time. The first is "manipulate''. This is similar to "control," which means "manipulate" in Japanese. The usage is "I hate people who manipulate others. (私は、他人を操る人たちが嫌いだ)". The second word I learned is "wreck". This is similar in meaning to "destroy," which in Japanese means "to destroy/collide. [?] It can be used as "His car was in a wreck. (彼の車は衝突事故にあった)".

I watched Subtitled Trailers on YouTube. I watch YouTube every day, so it was very easy to study on YouTube. I recommend it because most people carry their smartphones with them all the time, so they can learn from YouTube anytime, anywhere. YouTube has an English subtitle function, which makes it ideal for learning English because I can add English subtitles to movies and dramas. English subtitles are useful when you can't understand English with just audio, or to make sure listening correctly. Learning English using movies and dramas is good because I can enjoy it.
I watched my favorite movie Wild Speed on YouTube. In the Wild Speed series, I watched previews of Sky Mission, Ice Break and Jet Break. I learned the word "whistle". The meaning is "a clear, high-pitched sound made by forcing breath through a small hole between partly closed lips, or between one's teeth." The meaning in Japanese is "口笛を吹く". One more thing, I learned the word "outlaw". The meaning is "a person who has broken the law, especially one who remains at large or is a fugitive." The meaning in Japanese is "無法者".

I tried using WatchMojo. I can watch the top 10 rankings on WatchMoj for free. There are many genres such as horror, action, animation and fantasy. I can also watch not only movies but also the top 10 ranking in music, fashion, sports and travel. I think it's good that there are many topics. The best thing for me is that there are not only videos but also scripts. If you open the video and scroll down. you can check words that you don't understand or can't hear from the audio. That is very useful.
I often watch horror movies and I sometimes wonder what to watch. Now I can see the recommended ranking while studying English on WatchMojo. That's killing two birds with one stone.
The video I watched was "Top 10 Horror Movies Inspired By True Events". There are two new words that I learned in this video. The first is "assailant". It means "attacker" in English and "襲撃者" "敵" in Japanese. The second is "interrogate". It means "question" in English and "取り調べる" "尋問する"in Japanese.

I often watch movies on Netflix. This time I used Netflix to watch a movie called Trial by Fire, which is based on a true story about a man who is falsely accused of a crime and fights to clear his name by contacting various people in prison.
I found Netflix to be a convenient way to learn English because I could choose to watch the movie subtitled or dubbed as I wanted. I also felt that it was a great way to learn English for those who are not good at that type of study, because they can learn by watching movies they like rather than the more rigid study methods such as ESL YouTube or reading books. The best thing I learned from using Netflix was that it helped my ear to get used to native English. When I watch ESL on YouTube or study channels, I read the scripts instead of listening to the spoken English, so the tone is different from the natural tone that foreigners use when they are actually speaking. However, after I started watching foreign movies on Netflix, I felt that I was able to learn to understand more or less what was being said.
The expression I learned from watching Trial by Fire is "maintaining innocence." In Japanese, it means to 無実を維持する.

I watch IMDb to find videos for studying English . You can see movie previews on this site. They explain the plot of the video and what kind of work it is in an easy-to-understand explanation. Previews are written with subtitles and can be read at your own pace, which is very convenient. Depending on the work, there are other synopsis videos, and the performers and directors will tell you more about the highlights of the work and what kind of work it is. The good thing about this site is that it introduces recommended movies and allows you to hear how the performers feel about the work from the perspective of the performers. Rather than looking for an interesting movie by myself, I started thinking about listening to the cast's impressions and watching the recommended movie.
I watched the trailer for Jurassic World. I learned two words from this video. The first one is “survivors”. The meaning of this word is “a person who survives, especially a person remaining alive after an event in which others have died”. The Japanese meaning is “生き残った人”. The second word is “tease”. The meaning of this word is “make fun of or attempt to provoke (a person or animal) in a playful way”. The Japanese meaning “いじめる’. [actually からかう]

I think one of the best ways of studying English is by watching movies. We routinely watch movies on Netflix or Amazon Prime so they feel very familiar. The benefits of studying English using movies is that we can learn using English subtitles instead of textbooks . By using these, we can study English slang, daily conversation, and learn about pronunciation and enhance our listening skills. On Netflix, we can use "Language Learning with Netflix." This function can display two languages at the same time. Also, if you find an unknown word, you can click on it to hear the word read aloud, or to display its meaning . I recommend this study method for anyone who likes to watch movies or doesn’t like studying with textbooks.
I watched the Big Fish trailer on Netflix . I learned two expressions from this trailer. The first one is “determination ”決意することin Japanese. This expression is used like in this movie “I have more determination than any man you’re ever likely to me. ” This passage’s Japanese meaning is “やる気は誰よりもある” The next word is “in telling the story of 〜”〜について語る in Japanese. In this movie, they used this word like this “In telling the story of my father’s life ” 父の人生について語る物語.

I watched a movie on Netflix. The movie I watched was Shrek. The character is not accepted by the public because he is a monster, which distorts his own character. It is a story in which he takes the job of going to the rescue of the princess to get back where he lives, but falls in love with the princess who helped him and opens his heart.
When you watch movies on Netflix, you can watch them in your own style. Functions include dubbing and subtitles in various languages, including Japanese and English. If you want to read, you can use dubbing and English subtitles, and if you want to listen, you can also use Japanese subtitles and English subtitles. [Sorry, but I don't understand this.] If you improve, you can change both subtitles and languages to English or Japanese. Netflix is very good for studying English.
The English I learned in Shrek this time is "swamp."This is the place where the main character lives in the movie, and in Japanese it is called "沼地" [English meaning?]
[OK, I fixed the spacing (for the last time). I will leave the comment as a reminder.] [I don't know what I can do to get you to put one space after a period. I have told you so many times. This is the easiest request I can make, but you continue to ignore me. I don't know if I can help you this year. Maybe you should try again with a different teacher next year. - Kevin]

I used IMDb to watch a movie trailer, The Boys. There were no subtitles and I couldn't understand what they were saying. I tried to listen several times, but I found it difficult. On the other hand, if I continue this, it may improve my ability to hear English. I also watched a movie trailer with subtitles on YouTube. I could understand English better with subtitles. However, I felt that listening was neglected because I concentrated on reading the subtitles. As a result, I feel that more effective results can be obtained by alternating with and without subtitles. I also watched a movie and tried to learn English. I watched the movie Bad Boys. It was very interesting. I feel that the good thing about learning English by watching a movie is that you can learn while watching what you like. However, you must keep studying in mind or you will be too focused on the contents of the movie.

I think Netflix is the best place to study English. First, there are many movies, so you can choose a wide range of levels from Western movies for young children to Western movies for adults. Netflix also has an app, which is convenient for many people. With Netflix, we can add subtitles in both Japanese and English. If you come across a word you don't understand, the Japanese subtitles allow you to quickly find the word you don't know, which is a very good feature. However, it is a little difficult to set two subtitles, which is a drawback. Thirdly, there are some Japanese movies that can be subtitled in English, so there is an advantage that you can study English with Japanese movies. It is recommended to translate what you have seen in Japanese movies into English because you can deepen your understanding of English. The last is that the meanings of Japanese and English lines do not differ. Other apps may have slightly different meanings, but Netflix is a good place to have almost the same lines of English. I think this is a great way to deepen your understanding of studying English.
I learned the word "across." The meaning is "crossing the road sideways." In Japanese it is said to "横断する". ["Cross" and "across" are not the same.]

Today I will summarize the advantages of watching Western movies with English subtitles in learning English, and introduce some words I actually learned from watching Western movies.
The first advantage of this method of learning is that the images are actually shown on the screen, so even unfamiliar words can be easily absorbed by comparing them with the content of the film. The second advantage is that we can study while watching our favorite movies, which keeps us focused and makes learning fun. The third advantage is that it can be viewed while traveling by train or bus, so learning can take place anywhere. The final benefit is that we can learn a lot of vocabulary and grammar from just one movie.
This time I watched Ted. And I learned a few words. The first is "hang out"which means “ぶらつく、出入りする” in Japanese and ? in English, and the second is "otherwise", which means “その他に、さもないと” in Japanese and ? in English, Finally, I learned "feel awful" which means “最悪な気分、ひどい気分” in Japanese and ? in English.

YouTube has many movie trailers. It is free and easy way to experience English. Users can change the speed of the video as a feature of YouTube. By using it, users can adjust the difficulty level of listening. Some videos also have a subtitle function, which can be used to aid learning. I like action movies so I often watch their trailers. I enjoy watching them because they are often very powerful. I find it difficult to hear English along with loud noises in those cases. In fact, the language is not always spoken in environment where it is easy to hear. I think it is necessary to be able to learn distinguish between noise and English. I find it fascinating that trailers allow me to acquire this ability.
I learned some vocabulary from the video. [Which video?] The first word is "pentagon," which means "a plane figure with five straight sides and five angles." It means "五角形" in Japanese. The next word is "extinction." It means that something is completely gone. And it means "絶滅" in Japanese. The last word is "grave." It is a place where broken or discarded objects lie. [This is not correct.] It means "墓" in Japanese.

I watched videos of TED Talks and Watchmojo. There are many topics in TED Talks, so you can find your favorite topic. It has a search field like Google, so it has very good functionality. Also, you can change the speed of the video so you can listen at the speed that suits you. Of course, it also has subtitles so you can remember the spelling.
WatchMojo counts down the top 10 for many categories. There are various categories such as movies, music, comics and animation. You can enjoy learning English in your favorite category. As a result, your English skills will improve.
I watched ''These animals are also plants ... wait, what?'' on TED Talks. You can learn about various animals as well as English. I learned a new word. The word is ''incorporate''. This means "take in or contain (something) as part of a whole; include." The meaning in Japanese is ''法人,組織''. [This is incorrect. "incorporate" is a verb. Your Japanese definition is a noun.]
I think the video is great for learning English. I think it's a very easy-to-understand learning method because you can see it with your eyes, listen to it with sound, and imagine it with illustrations. Also, I want to watch many English videos in the future because I can learn while having fun.

I used Amazon Prime Video to watch movies and learn English. I watched the movie Roman Holiday three times. I watched in English with Japanese subtitles all three times. If you watch the same Western movie many times, it will be easier to understand both English and the story.
Watch Mojo allows you to watch lots of English videos and read video scripts, so you can improve your listening skills and pronunciation. [You're not wrong, but I wonder if you really watched a video on Watchmojo. - KM] The word I learned from this is "dimensions", which means "dimensions" in Japanese. [?]
[84 words] [Maybe you should plan to return next year. It looks like you are unable to write enough to make a 2,500 word report.] [Also, you need to stop writing at the last minute. You need to take this class seriously.]

I watch Netflix on a daily basis, and this time, I decided to use it for my English studying. Netflix has many categories of movies and dramas to pick from. Not only are we able to watch Japanese movies, but we are also able to enjoy movies around the world. The first thing I did for my English studying was: I changed the subtitle to Japanese while the audio was in English. The next thing I did was: I changed the subtitle from Japanese to English while the audio was still in English. Because I watched the movie in English with a Japanese subtitle first, it made it easier for me to understand the second time when I changed the subtitle to English. What I watched as my English studying movie was ‘The Shawshank Redemption’. This movie was about a man the was falsely accused for the murder of his wife. The movie shows how he lives inside the prison and how he deals with things. This is a movie in the 90s but I was moved by it.
I have never cried at a movie before, but this one moved me. I am sure many of you know this movie because it is famous. Please give it a try.

I love to watch movies and TV. This way is the most suitable way for me to learn English. I usually use Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu. For this assignment, I watched Brooklyn Nine-Nine on Netflix.
Netflix has subtitles. When I watch English movies or TV for leaning English, I usually watch it with English subtitles and English audio. The authentic audio has native speech, so it’s hard to understand fully the first time. But if you keep watching it and try to listen carefully while reading the English subtitles, it's a good way to improve English skills.
I found a new word “fuzzy” from the Brooklyn Nine-Nine. It means "having a frizzy texture or appearance" and "difficult to perceive; indistinct or vague." And it means “(布・衣類が)けばのような、けばだった“in Japanese.
Watching English videos is a good way to study for people who feel that learning English is hard and boring. You can learn and improve your English skills while havingf fun. If you can't understand the story of the video, then I recommend watching it with Japanese one time and then watching it again with English audio and subtitles.
I love to watch movies and TV. This way is the most suitable way for me to learn English. I usually use Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu. For this assignment, I watched Brooklyn Nine-Nine on Netflix.

I like studying English in movies because I can easily study and learn new words. I especially use Prime Video and Netflix, but for this assignment, I used a website called Ted Ed.
Ted Ed has subtitles so I can easily understand the content of the videos. And I can change the subtitles language. If I feel that speaking speed is fast, I can slow it down. If I register only my name, I can take quizzes. I can see the number of views in movies so I can know the interests of others. And If I want to know the content deeply, I can know the content by tapping Dig Deeper. Then, If I want to know other opinions, I can see the other opinions by tapping Discuss. And Ted Ed has many subjects, such as health, social studies, business and so on. However, I can't watch any anime on this site, so I am a little sad about that. I think that Ted Ed is like English Central.
I learned "alteration" from a video. It means "a small change that makes someone or something slightly different, or the process of this change" and "変更" in Japanese.

I like to watch movies and dramas, so this is a good way for me to learn English. I watched two videos. One is “Top 10 Best Pirates of the Caribbean Franchise Moments” on WatchMojo, and the other is “The First Day of School”, season 1 of Full House on Netflix.
The WatchMojo videos don’t have subtitles, but they have scripts, so you can read the scripts while listening to the English narration. The narrator spoke so fast that it was hard to hear and it took me a while to understand. So I think it’s very good to be able to see the script. Netflix videos have English subtitles. You can also change the playback speed. If you have a word you don’t understand or haven’t heard before, you can pause the video to look up the meaning, or slow it down to check the pronunciation. In Full House, the main characters are three sisters, and they don't use many difficult words.
I found a new word “airhead” from the Full House video. It means “a foolish, silly, or unintelligent person” and “頭が空っぽな人” in Japanese.
Watching videos is a good way to learn English. However, I think it is important to watch videos that are appropriate for your level, not just movies you like, in order to improve your English skill.

I watched videos of TED Talks and Watchmojo. TED Talks has many topics, so you can learn English and about topics that you choose. TED Talks has English subtitles and a script. If you open the script, you can see the time designation on the left so you can hear the audio of the paragraph you want. And the script highlights where the audio is playing so you don’t lose where it is speaking. And you can change the video speed slower or faster.
On Watchmojo, they are counting down the Top 10 or 20 in many movie categories. You can learn English watching their videos and also find new interesting movies so you will be able to increase the opportunity to be involved in English. Then your English skill will improve gradually.
I watched “The death of the universe - and what it means for life" on TED Talks. It is about the cosmos so there are many new and difficult words, but I’m interested in this video. I learned “encompassing”. It means “to include a wide range of ideas, subjects” and ...を取り込む in Japanese. I also learned “inevitability”. It means “the fact that is certain to happen” and 不可避 in Japanese.
Learning things that interest you in English is very beneficial so if you have hobbies or topics you are interested in, it is very helpful to read or watch them in English to improve your English skills.

I write about my favorite movies on my blog, so I watch a lot of movies. I usually watch them in English with Japanese subtitles on Amazon Prime or Netflix. I think that Netflix is better than Amazon Prime because with Netflix it's easy to switch the subtitles from Japanese to English or other languages. I also found a very good function on Google Chrome. It is ‘Language Learning with Netflix. ’ If you have Google Chrome, you can easily use it. You just search LLN and install it into your Google Chrome browser. With LLN, you can watch English and Japanese subtitles at the same time. I wish I had known about this earlier. [This is great, Ayane! Nice!]
I used the LLN function on Chrome and I watched ‘Full House', a family drama on Netflix. I think that we can learn about natural daily life conversations in English. "Full House" is a comed,y so sometimes there are crazy lines that we will never use. But I could learn some good idioms. The first is ‘I take it’. It means ‘I think’. The meaning in Japanese is ‘思った’. This idiom is usually used in reaction to someone's story. The second idiom is ‘after all’. This means ‘anyway’ or ‘conclusion’. The meaning in Japanese is ‘つまり’ ‘結局は’. In this scene, the idiom was used in a negative situation, but that may be only by chance.
I think "Full House" is good for studying English because the sentences are easy and short. In addition, the stories are funny. I used to watch "Full House" dubbed in Japanese but this time I watched with English voices for the first time. Noticing the differences is fun. The expressions they use are a little different in the two languages. By the way I love Jessie uncle {?}. [I can't understand this. Jessie is the uncle? Or Jessie's uncle?'
Today, I watched a movie that arrived today on DVD called ‘Jojo Rabbit’. I was looking forward to seeing this movie. I learned some idioms. The first is ‘I swear’. This means "I promise." The meaning in Japanese is ‘誓う.’ I think this idiom is usually used when people say they are telling the truth. The second is ‘never mind’. This means ‘don’t worry’ or ‘you don’t need to care about this.’ ‘I’m OK’. The meaning in Japanese is ‘気にしないでね’. I think this idiom has a very kind meaning.
I watched two types of video. I think that school dramas and human dramas are good for studying English because they're easy to understand. I couldn’t understand by watching only once, so I should try to watch many times.

I watch movies, TV and videos on a daily basis on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Hulu. In recent years, we can conveniently watch at home because of improvements in video streaming services. I usually use Japanese subtitles and dubbing when I watch English movies, TV and videos for fun because I want to understand the contents completely.
However, Ialso watch movies, TV and videos for learning English so I’ll introduce my recommend English studying method. This method comes from “海外ドラマで面白いほど英語が話せる超勉強法/出口武頼” and I’ll introduce it including my experience. First, watch videos that you have seen before with English audio and Japanese subtitles (Comedy and daily life videos are recommended because it’s difficult if the video has too many technical terms. My recommended video is “Full House”). Second, focus on watching and find the phrase you care about. When you find the phrase, stop the video. Third, switch to English subtitles and write down the phrase and who said it in a notebook. Make and remember English phrase notes that are actually used by native speakers. The good thing about this method is that it’s fun because you can watch and learn your favorite videos. Also, the video makes it easy to check pronunciation and do shadowing.
I learned some words from “Full House” First, the word is “keep”. I’ve already know the word meaning like 保つ in Japanese. This word was used in the story to mean “have (飼う)”. Second, the word is “absolutely”. it means “completely and in every way and used to emphasize something (絶対的に、完全に)”.
I like watching the same movies and TVs over and over. Someday I want to be able to understand videos with English audio and English subtitles.

I watched "TED Talks" and "Friends" on YouTube. I used to watch these programs a lot to improve my English skills when I was in America, so I watched them this time, too.
"TED Talks" are influential videos from expert speakers on education, business, science, and technology. The videos are usually short, like 15 mins to 20 mins. Maybe this sounds boring to some people, but I could watch the videos while enjoying them because I learned a lot of things that I didn't know. Topics are sometimes serious, but sometimes they're funny or educational. Also, "TED Talks" have many subtitles, so people around the world can understand and have fun.
"Friends" is one of the famous comedy dramas in America. This TV show is just fun, but you can learn slang and expressions that Americans actually use in their daily life. "Friends" really helped me improve my speaking and listening skills. A word I learned from "TED Talks" is "integrity" (誠実、品位). It means "the quality of being honest" and "having strong moral principles".
I think the biggest benefit of watching videos in English is that you can listen to native speaker's real expressions and intonation. Also, you can watch the videos while having fun. These things are absolutely essential when you want to learn something new.

I use Netflix or Amazon Prime Video when I watch movies. It is necessary to pay money to use them, but I’m very satisfied because there are many movies and dramas. This time, I watched a movie using Netflix. Netflix has excellent audio and subtitle functions. The audio can be chosen from up to seven languages, and the subtitles can be chosen from up to eight languages. Another function is downloads. With this function, you can watch a movie even if there is no internet connection. I always watch movies at home with a PC or tablet. When I’m on a train or going out, I watch movies after downloading them first at home.
I watched "Going in Style" (Jap:ジーサンズ はじめての強盗). It’s a comedy movie that appeared in the United States in 2017. I watched it three times in total. The first time was Japanese, the second time was in Japanese and the subtitles were in English, and the third time was in English and the subtitles were in Japanese. It’s difficult for me to understand movies only in English with no subtitles, but with Netflix, I can change the audio and subtitles freely. When we watch many times, we can understand both the English and the story. It takes time and effort, but I think it’s good to watch more than once.
I learned three words from this movie. The first word is “overwhelm”. The meaning is “圧倒する” in Japanese and “have a strong emotional effect on” in English. The second word is “psst”. It’s used as attract someone’s attention surreptitiously in the meaning of “ねえ” in Japanese. The third word is “exclamation”. The meaning is “絶叫” in Japanese and “a sudden cry or remark expressing surprise, strong emotion, etc”.

I have used a variety of videos from the sites that were introduced in the Lifelong English Seminar, and I chose TED, because I think that TED is very useful for learning English and I knew about this site before. Celebrity speeches from around the world are posted on this site. For example, you can watch a speech by Bill Clinton. There are a wide variety of stories, and it's free. It is great to be able to watch these videos for free. It is sometimes difficult to understand the English, but it's not a problem because you can view the written contents of each speech, and you can pause the video when you like. The videos are not too long, so they are relatively easy to listen to. I watched many times, because by listening to these speeches, my listening skills will improve. The interesting content makes me concentrate and I stay motivated, I think these videos are especially useful for studying TOEIC.
I watched Danielle Feinberg’s speech. She is Pixar’s director of photography. I didn’t understand the meaning of two words. The first word is “three dimensional”. Three dimensional means “having, or seeming to have, length, depth, and height” (3次元). The second word is “fascinate”. Fascinate means “If someone or something fascinates you, you are attracted to them and think they are extremely interesting” (魅了する). I think I will keep watching TED videos in the future, because they will help me in my tourism career.

I watched a video called Top 10 Most Expensive Places to Live on Watchmojo.com. This video introduces 10 places that are most expensive to live in the world. I often watch English video on YouTube, but sometimes I don't understand what they say, so I was thinking, it's difficult for me, but Watchmojo has the video script, so I could understand what they said. I found some new vocabulary words; 'constantly' which means always. You can use this vocabulary word like this. "This baby cries constantly." The next new vocabulary word is 'beware' which means look out. You can use it like this: "Beware that you don't get into trouble.". The last one is 'nevertheless' which means however. On Watchmojo , you can enjoy watching a lot of English videos and reading the video script, so I think it can improve my listening skills and pronunciation. |
