I used the NHK WORLD app. This app allows you to learn Japanese news with English audio. A Japanese announcer reads the news, so the words and intonation are easy to understand. This app is very useful for explaining the events in Japan to foreigners. NHK WORLD is almost always about the latest news, so you'll never get bored. You can listen to news that you don't know, so you can become more familiar with current affairs. In addition, there are English subtitles for videos. [Really?] It is suitable not only for apps aimed at overseas people, but also for Japanese people who want to learn English. You can listen only to the audio and check the subtitles if you don't understand. Also, when you listen to the audio, the page contains a summary of the news you are about to hear. So you can switch your head to make it easier to read and understand.
I learned 'follow through'. it means 'いい結果まで導く'or '追求する' in Japanese [English meaning?]. Also, the meaning of 'charge' in the audio was used to '提供する' in Japanese. [English meaning?] I learned that 'charge' has various meanings. I think this can be said for many English words. By listening to the audio of many news stories, you can learn the meaning of English words according to the situation. [Which videos did you watch?]

The streaming news I would like to recommend is BBC News, which was originally created as a TV news program, but it started to be available on YouTube in 2007. It is also available on an app. It is designed for native English speakers, so it may be a bit challenging for English learners like us. However, the pronunciation is easy to listen to and you will gain a better understanding of not only English but also international issues.
There are three main features of BBC News: first, the pronunciation is very easy to understand; second, you can watch it with subtitles if you cannot understand it; and third, you can take in academic English and knowledge. By using this account, you will be able to incorporate strong listening and reading skills, as well as knowledge of international issues.
This time, we [Who is 'we' Mirai?] watched "How the global cost-of-living crisis could affect Japan. " The content was about the situation where wages in Japan have not increased at all and about restaurants offering low-cost food. We learned two words: first, "decade," which means ten years, and is often used in historical and academic discussions. You can use it as, "Smartphones have been widely spread in the last decade(スマートフォンはここ10年で急速に広まった).
The second word is "grapple'', which can also mean "hold on tight to~(しっかり掴む)" but in this video it was used in the sense of tackling a problem (問題などに取り組む). For example, "We grappled with the problem."

I don’t watch TV very much., but I always get news information from online news on my phone. This time, I used the app NHK World TV. I think it’s very convenient for me because I can watch the news in English on my phone, not on TV at home. On NHK World TV, you can mainly watch news related to Japan in English, and it feels like it broadcasts news broadcast in Japan in English. [?] And I think the English on NHK World TV is easier to understand than other foreign news apps. The speed of speaking and words of announcers are slower and easier than other news stations, and the topics of the news are connected to Japan, so I think it’s easy for Japanese to understand. And also, there are scripts of the news on each news page. So you can use it to check your understanding. And on NHK World TV, news is divided into categories, so you can watch news in the genre you are interested in. I think NHK World TV is a very useful and easy-to-use app for people studying English and foreigners studying about Japan.

I have watched overseas news on my PC several times in class, but I had never used an app to watch overseas news. This time I installed and tried the app BBC News.
The app has a live broadcast, articles and videos aimed at the world. If you open the app and press the "LIVE" button at the top of the screen, you can listen to a live broadcast called BBC World Service. There are no subtitles on that live broadcast, but you can try your listening skills. And you can check the top 10 list of two types: articles and videos. The videos have subtitles and summaries, so they help you understand the content. I think it is better than the live broadcast that you can watch and listen to the videos many times. Also, the app also has a video called "One-minute World News," where you can watch the latest BBC news. The news updated 24 hours a day, so you can know latest information about various countries.
I learned a word from a video " 'World's biggest' freshwater fish found in Cambodia". The word is "upstream". It means "上流" in Japanese and "moving towards the source of a river, from a point further down the river" in English.
Because of the audio that native speakers hear, I think it's difficult to understand than the audio that we hear to learn English. However, BBC News is a good tool to learn about pronunciation and speed of native speakers and the current situation overseas.

I didn’t know that there are a lot of Streaming TV News apps, but I used the NHK World app in class when I was a third year college student. I will introduce the NHK World app.
There is a lot of TV news about in the world. All news is spoken by a Japanese newscaster, so it is easy to understand. There is a written summary of the news, so if you can’t understand the news and you have no time to listen, you can read the summary and you can get the information.. There are "Top Stories" and "Back Stories," so you can know what’s happening now and what happened in the past in the world. There are live streaming videos and also on demand videos. With the NHK World News app, you can watch the news anytime, anywhere.
I learned two new words. First I learned ‘’declare’’. Its meaning is "proclaim, avow" and 宣言する、言い放つ in Japanese. Second I learned ‘’struggle’’. Its meaning is "fight, battle" and 闘争、戦い in Japanese. [Which videos did you watch?]

I used the Reuters News app. This app is a news app operated by Reuters, famous for its “Reuters News Agency,” and the information is highly reliable.
Reuters TV offers a variety of top news, world, and business stories. You can watch the latest video news in English, so you can learn English and gather information at the same time. Also, because it is news, you will learn vocabulary. The announcer’s pronunciation is a little hard to understand, but subtitles can be set to make it easier to understand. There are also videos from the search section. Here, there are no subtitles, but you will find a summarized statement at the bottom of the screen.
I watched “Turf war: Las Vegas ditches grass as drought worsens” and “How a Philippines plastic waste crisis spiraled” on Reuters TV. I found two words from this. The first is “biodegradable”. It means “capable of being decomposed by bacteria or other living organisms.”, and “生分解性の” in Japanese. The second is drought”. It means “a prolonged period of abnormally low rainfall, leading to a shortage of water.”, and “干ばつ” in Japanese.
I think this app is a good way to learn because by watching the news, it helps me improve my reading and listening skills.

I usually get information from LINE News and Twitter and look it up on the internet. This time, I used an application called NHK World - Japan, so I will introduce it.
NHK World - Japan is an app that allows you to listen to news centered on Japan in 18 languages. When you open the app, you will find tabs for News, Live and On Demand. In the news tab, you can get the latest news quickly with videos and articles. In live, you can watch live news according to the program schedule like TV news. On Demand offers a wide range of previously broadcast news, drama and music programs.
I watched the video of "Narita Airport welcomes back overseas tourists" and I learned two new words. The first word is "hygiene", it means "protecting your health and preventing illness," and "衛生、健康法" in Japanese. Second, I learned "holidaymaker", in the sense of "someone who enjoys holidays", and "休日の行楽客、休日を楽しむ人" in Japanese.
Most videos don't have subtitles, but since these is mostly Japanese news, many of the topics are familiar and easy to understand for us English learners in Japan. Also, the content that Japanese people are talking about is subtitled in English, so I think it is useful for learning how to translate. I think this is a useful app for getting to know the news and learning English.

When I was a junior high school student, my cram school teacher promoted Reuters News Agency and BBC’s official news service in my English study. I added them and tried to watch them sometimes on the train in the morning. But it was translated into Japanese, so it was more about learning what was happening in the world than learning English. This time, I would like to introduce the CNN news app, which has videos and TV channels in addition to articles. The videos have tickers and experts in the field and the relevant people. You can easily choose from your favorite category from the home page. You can choose from a variety of world news, from political to business, health, fashion, and more. I found it to be a great way to learn English on topics that interest me. Also, if there is a word I don't understand, I can look it up by selecting it. [Please show me this.] Another good point is that you can learn grammar and listening together. Unlike movies or reading books, you can use a little time well to study English. I learned a new word in the health category from "Biden administration moves to restrict nicotine levels in tobacco products." "Maximum" means "greatest, highest, top." In Japanese, it means 最大限の.

I used to watch BBC News as one of my English studies. I think I have a lot to learn from the news. It's very convenient because you can watch English news anywhere if you have an iPhone. On BBC News, I can see timely topics and interesting news with just one search. I like fishing, so I searched for "fishing" and read articles. It's great to be able to learn English with interesting news. You can read and listen to the news even if you can't get the signal. When BBC News is difficult, Japanese subtitles are available on YouTube. However, BBC News on YouTube is updated less frequently, so I think BBC News without subtitles is better for those who understand English very well.
I learned two expressions. The first is “pristine” It means “綺麗な” in Japanese. In this case means “beautiful, clean”. The second is “angling ban”. It means “釣り禁止” in Japanese. In this case means “fishing prohibited”.
I think BBC News is a good app to improve listening and reading skills, and I can read articles that interest me, so I will continue to study with this app.

I have never used a streaming TV news app before, but I used BBC NEWS for this assignment. You can watch world news with this app. You can see the news in the ranking. Also, it comes with a video, so you can learn more about it. You can also attach subtitles to the video, so you can easily learn words you don't understand. You can also press "LIVE" to listen to BBC World Service live. This app conveys the various problems that are happening in the world today. So you can understand more about international issues. You can also learn about the world because there are news stories that are not broadcast on Japanese television. There are not too many long sentences o the videos, so you can watch them without getting tired. And it's easy to read in the travel time. [?]
I watched "Ukraine War". I learned two words from it. The first one is "justification". It means "正当化" in Japanese and "the action of showing something to be right or reasonable" in English. The second one is "corridor". It means "廊下" in Japanese and "a long passage in a building from which doors lead into rooms'' in English.
I didn't know there were so many streaming TV news apps From now on, I would like to use this app to learn about the problems that are occurring all over the world.

I usually get news about what's happening on TV and SNS. News can also be obtained from specific apps. There is an application called NHK World Japan provided by NHK. You can get it for free, and you can choose from 18 languages, including English and Chinese. It is divided into three main categories: News, Earthquake, and Tsunami. The Earthquake and Tsunami columns tell you if you are awake now [?]. News is further divided into four categories: Top Stories, Backstories, At a Glance, and Japan. The article also includes photos and videos, but the length of the video is over 1 to 5 minutes, some of which are over 10 minutes. The articles are not long, so they don't take long to read. Also, even if you close the app, you can play the video, so you can listen to the video with your ears while opening other apps. You can use the hashtag function in this app. For example, if you press the hashtag #Ukraina, you can see news about Ukraine, the current state of war, and so on. If you press the hashtag #Weather, you can see news about the weather. I think the good points are that you can quickly get timely information such as natural disasters and select the news you want to know by pressing the hashtag. I learned two words from this application. The first word is "forecast". "Forecast" means "予報する、予想" in Japanese. It's used to predict the weather. The second word is "ventilators". "Ventilators" means "換気扇、人工呼吸器" in Japanese. It is worn when it is necessary to change air and when there is a risk of life.

To improve my English listening skills, I listen to news as well as music. The news allows me to listen to local English and understand what is going on in the country. Among other things, I use an app called Sky News. It has live news feeds, so I can listen to local English for longer periods of time. It also has TikTok-like videos that are short 30 seconds to 2 minutes as well as long news, so you can easily listen to the news. Recently, we [?] saw the news of Johnny Depp's victory in a lawsuit. Johnny Depp claimed domestic violence against his wife, Amber Heard. Many fans were saddened when he had to drop various movies because of this incident. I was also saddened that he could no longer appear in Fantastic Beasts. What I learned in this article is the word "sue." This word Japanese means “訴える” and is often used in articles about court cases. I am glad I learned it because it is often used in dramas. [Does Sky News have subtitles?]

I usually watch news on TV, but this was the first time I used the NHK World app. This app allows you to watch Japanese and Asian news in 20 languages including English. News, live and on-demand are available. At first I thought it would be difficult to listen to news in English, but scripts are shown below the videos so it is easy to understand the content. Not only that, but the announcer speaks slowly and clearly, making it very easy to understand what is being said. I feel that this app is very useful for foreign people living in Japan. I think it is also useful for people who are learning English. There are many words used in the news, so you can learn a variety of vocabulary and improve your listening skills by listening to the news. I want to use this app to learn the news and improve my English skills.
I watched the news for “Party leaders speak as campaigning kicks off”. And I learned two new words. The first is “diplomacy”. It means “外交” in Japanese. The definition of English is “the management of relationships between countries”. The second is “heatstroke”. It means “熱射病” in Japanese. The definition of English is “a condition that can lead to death, caused by being too long in a very hot place”.

There are a lot of news agencies with streaming TV news applications. I’d like to introduce Reuters. an international news agency founded by Paul Julius Reuter in London, UK. It has been called the most trusted news agency in the world. There are a lot of good things about the Reuters application. If you have a smartphone or tablet, you can check news anywhere, anytime. You can read articles in various genres such as business, legal and sports on the Reuters application. On Reuters TV, you can watch the news on videos and you can add subtitles so you don’t have to worry about overlooking words. Reuters is transmitting news of all over the world, so you can deeply understand the international situation. I think this Reuters application is very useful because you can watch news while learning English. I’d like to pay attention to not only Japanese news but also world news.
I saw the news of “Ukraine’s Sievierodonetsk falls to Russia” and I learned some new words from this video. The first word is “withdrawal”. This means “撤退、引き下がる” in Japanese and “retreat, removal” in English. The second word is “wasteland”. This means “荒地、(戦争・災害などで)荒廃した地域” in Japanese and “wilderness, barren” in English.

I used the NHK World app. On this app, we can mainly see news about Japan. We can watch the top news in a video that is summarized in about 1 minute. In addition, we can also understand information about the news with commentary. By the way, we can get information about the news live on the news and on the radio. App users can also study simple Japanese on the radio. The most useful thing about using this app is that we can watch videos sorted by category. We can watch various programs such as sports, dramas, travel and food. These programs can be seen in 15 to 50 minutes with English scripts. We will be able to use this feature to learn about expressions related to information on each topic of interest. However, there are some features that are difficult to use in this app. It is not possible to change the playback speed, and it is not possible to see all the contents with subtitles. English narration does not have script, as only the content spoken by the performers in Japanese is often scripts.
I learned some words from this app. The first is “achieve”. It means “accomplish, complete” in English and “成し遂げる” in Japanese. The second is “threat”. It means “menace, risk” in English and “脅威” in Japanese. [Which videos did you watch?]

I used an app called NHK World Japan and installed it on my phone. On that app, I was able to choose news that I was interested in from many categories. As I was watching the news on my phone, I realized that there were also sentences of the news below. Thanks to that, people who are not that good with listening and understanding English, such as myself, are able to understand the news clearly.
This time I have chosen news about prime minister Kishida’s press conference. He talks about how Japan is acting towards Russia and Ukraine situation. Prime minister Kishida mentioned in his conference that Japan will continue to try to align Asian countries with G7’s views. At the same time, he said Japan will drastically strengthen Japan’s defense capabilities, bring the alliance with the US to a higher level. Another thing he mentioned in the conference was regarding the COVID19 issue. He said that his government will try to enable people to return to regular, pre-pandemic life as much as possible. He also said, in case of emergency, Japan will ensure that necessary medical care is always available, and the system will function well.

I tried using BBC News. I can read, watch, and listen to news from overseas. I can choose the news that I'm interested in from a wide variety of categories. I can also read news articles offline. It's nice to be able to watch the news anytime, anywhere. The good thing about BBC News is that there are captions and news articles in the video. I can listen while reading the subtitles. There is also a function that displays the current popular news rankings. The length of the video is about two minutes and short, so it's very easy to watch. Also, there is a function that allows you to save videos and articles. This app is only in English, so it's difficult for me, but I think it's very good to be able to see the latest news from overseas. It is also good that the latest news is being added more and more. I think this app will help me study English.
I watched "India and Bangladesh floods displace millions and kill dozens”. I learned two new words in this video. The first is "submerge". It means "deluge" in English and "水没" in Japanese. The second is "surround". It means "besiege" in English and "包囲する" in Japanese.

I would like to introduce the good and bad points of using BBC News and NHK WORLD respectively. The first good thing about BBC News is that the videos are subtitled and the words are easy to understand. The bad thing was that the ads are distracting. [There are no ads in the videos on BBC.] Next, regarding NHK WORLD, the first good thing about it is that Japanese news is presented in English, which I found to be a good learning experience. However, it is not subtitled, so I fel it would be easier to understand if there were subtitles. Each app had its own merits and covered different topics, with BBC News covering current affairs overseas and NHK WORLD covering Japanese news, so I think it would be a good idea to use each app for a different purpose.
I learned that "意識的に~" in Japanese is "consciously~" in English by watching the video "Ukraine war: Band members reunite after fleeing invasion" on BBC News. On NHK WORLD, I watched the video "Yokai, From Folklore to the Future" and learned that the Japanese word for "民間伝承" is "folklore" in English. [Yuito, it's confusing when you write the Japanese first. If you learned an English word, you should write the English word first, then the Japanese meaning.]

I tried the NHK World app this time. This app basically shows a lot of Japanese news, and I felt it was a bit lacking if you want to see world news. However, I think it is a very easy to understand app for foreigners who want to see Japanese news and for those who want to see news in English. First of all, it is divided by topic, so you can pick up the news you want to see, and the news itself is easy to understand because the video includes the text and is spoken at a relatively easy-to-understand speed. Unlike the radio, there is both video and text, so I can rewind to the parts I didn't catch and look up words I didn't understand based on the text, which I found very convenient for learning English. Also, many of the news items are short, so I can quickly watch what I'm interested in in my spare time. What I found particularly good about this app is that it provides easy-to-understand information on natural disasters such as earthquakes and tsunamis. Japan is a country that is prone to earthquakes, so I think it is very helpful that this information is presented in an easy-to-understand format. Also, the news is updated as needed, so it is very good to be able to get the latest information.
The word I learned by using this app is "pushed back to a chemical plant. In Japanese, it means 化学工場に押し戻された。In Japanese, This is taken from the news about the war between Ukraine and Russia.

I learned English using a news application called CNN. In this app, you can watch videos about news with English subtitles, and I think it is convenient to read the explanation about the news. You can read or watch videos about news when you have free time or when you are traveling on the train. I think it's also convenient to be able to see world news for free.
I saw a news article on CNN called "Newly documented polar bear population lives in a suprising place". "Research has found that most polar bears can struggle to survive in the Arctic by 2100," or "climate change is one of the most important things for the future of polar bears." I think this is a news article that tells us that polar bears are also affected by global warming. I think we should always try to do good things for the environment so that global warming does not progress further.
I learned the word "uncertain" and the Japanese meaning is the word "uncertain". Next, I learned the word "necessity", and the meaning of Japanese is the word "necessity". Finally, after learning the word "genetically", the Japanese meaning is the word "genetic".

I watched BBC NEWS. It provides a lot of news from around the world. Among the videos I saw, there was news about Europe. When I look at the news online, there are many letters and difficult images. However, this site has not only has articles, but also videos. And in the video, there are subtitles, so it's easy to understand. It's hard to understand the situation and the content just from text, so it's easier to understand because of the video. I saw the news of "Europe Heatwave: Spanish firefighters tackle wildfire". There was a video and it was easy to understand the situation and what happened. I was able to understand the news because I could see firefighters working hard to extinguish the fire. For this reason, I recommend this site.
I learned two words from this site. The first one is “tackle”. The meaning of this word is “the equipment required for a task or sport. [Sometimes, but not in this case.] / make determined efforts to deal with (a problem or difficult task) [This one is correct.]”. In Japanese, it's called "取り組む”, [yes] ”滑車”. [no] Next, the second one is “warmest”. The meaning of this word is “at a fairly or comfortably high temperature. / having or showing enthusiasm, affection, or kindness.” In Japanese, it's called "最も暖かい”.

I used the NHK World app. I didn't know how to use the BBC News app, but it [?] was easy to understand. I think the good thing about this app is that it has 18 languages and can be viewed by people from various countries. It was very difficult to understand the content just by looking at the news spoken in English. I couldn't understand what the newscaster was saying just by looking at the news, but it was helpful that what the newscaster was saying came out in subtitles. I think this app is good for training listening skills. It would be great if I could understand this news without subtitles.
I learned the word "treaty". The mean is "a formally concluded and ratified agreement between states." The meaning in Japanese is "条約、協定". One more thing, I learned the word "realistic". The mean is "having or showing a sensible and practical idea of what can be achieved or expected." The meaning in Japanese is "現実的な".

I will introduce a British news site called BBC News this time. The news site is a state-run British broadcaster, but you can read and watch news from all over the world as well as British news. There are subtitles in the video, making it easy to understand even if the English is difficult. With both subtitles and videos, you can also understand more about the news. And you can also read news articles offline, so you can read them without WiFi outside. I think it's good to be able to watch the news anytime, anywhere. I think BBC News is very easy to use, so I highly recommend it.
I saw the news about that the Korea Aerospace Research Institute successfully launched the Nuri rocket, which was developed by South Korea, from the Naro Space Center in Goheung, South Jeolla Province, on the 21st and put into orbit for the first time. It was easy to understand the contents of the video because I could see how it was launched. The English I learned this time is the word successfully, which means 成功、成功したin Japanese. I think there are many benefits to studying English using BBC News or other English news. First, you can acquire English reading, writing and listening skill. News articles are shorter than books, so they're recommended for people have concentration problems. And there is news with video, so if you can’t understand the news from the text alone, you may be able to understand from the images. And I think that you can understand how to write better by reading news articles. Next, BBC News has many categories (sports, culture country and health ) and you can easily search in the app and find interesting news. Finally, the news is one of the best way to acquire specialized vocabulary because the news article focuses on a topic and helps you learn related terminology.
I red the Lightyear review: ’A frustratingly slow, melancholy drama’ from BBC. I learned two words from this article. The first one is clunky “ださい,ぎこちない” in Japanese. This word is used like in this article, “The film’s clunky machinery and scratched paintwork look as if they come from the 1970s rather than the 1990s”. The next word is frustratingly “イライラするほど” in Japanese. They used this word like this “Mac Lane has made a frustratingly slow melancholy drama. ”

Today, I have summarized the pros and cons I felt using the news app CNN. First, on CNN a good point is you can quickly go to the topic you want to read. I found this very convenient. I saw the news of a frog that couldn't land. It was very cute. Another good thing is that CNN has subtitles so you can see it without sound. Also, there are short news stories and long news stories, so you can see the news you want to see at your own timing. But there were some bad points. There is no subtitles other than English. I felt it was tough when there was something I couldn't understand in English. Also, I didn't like having to see the ads. However, I think it is very good to be able to know the world news for free by having an app like this. [150 words]

I always watch Japanese news on TV, but I haven't had many chances to watch overseas news. That's because Japanese news also broadcasts what's happening in the world.
For the first time, I saw the news that only appeared overseas. It is a news application that can be viewed on smartphones. I have installed an application called BBC News. This app is all in English and there is no Japanese. However, it has video narration and subtitles and is very kind when it comes to English. Most news videos are less than 5 minutes long. Almost all videos have subtitles, so if you can't understand by just listening, you can watch them smoothly by listening with the subtitles.
I saw the news titled "Glastonbury Festival welcomes back crowds as fans deal with travel disruption". I learned a new word in this app. The word is ‘’crash’’. This is "a move or cause to move with force, speed, and sudden loud noise." The meaning in Japanese is ‘’衝撃’’.
BBC News doesn't have Japanese, so you have to look up words you don't understand, but I think you'll learn it yourself. Also, I think it's a very useful app because you can grasp the current status of overseas news at your favorite time.

I saw this news at Afghan earthquake: At least 1,000 people killed and 1,500 injured https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-61890804. The earthquake in Afghanistan killed many and seriously injured. From this news, I learned that an earthquake struck Afghanistan and it is now difficult in that country. The country now needs help. What I noticed using BBC News is that the latest popular news is up, so it's easy to understand the economic situation immediately. You can learn about various topics such as the war in Ukraine and the confidence in Afghanistan. However, because English is difficult, it is a very good study because you can acquire long reading comprehension and vocabulary. However, the drawbacks are that some topics are too difficult, so it seems difficult for beginners. Recommended app for people who are used to English. You can easily find out the second news you care about.
In addition, related news will come out, so information can be expanded. However, it should be noted that very rarely there will be topics that are completely unrelated. The long news is written in a very easy-to-understand manner, and the latest information will be available soon, so you can expand your knowledge. I felt like using this app to spread more information and get to know the world.
I learned the word "injure". The meaning of the word is "to hurt the body." In Japanese it means ケガをする.

LIVE
The 24-hour news feed allows you to get the latest news as soon as possible. The live newscasts are subtitled, allowing you to hear English with your eyes and ears.
On Demand
This topic is video and audio news. The variety of news is so rich and unique that you can choose the news you like.
It's a little difficult because there is no Japanese, but it's great for learning English and for learning more about the news.

I used Reuters TV. It covers news from around the world and reports it with videos. It also covers a variety of regions and news genres making it easy to keep up with world affairs. News is segmented by region and into genres such as business and markets. This allows me focus on my areas of interest. Reuters Now is a very handy summary of current major news. The playback time of each news item is short, so it is easy to watch. It also helps that the announcers clearly pronounce English. News can be viewed with subtitles, which is helpful for learning. News can also download in advance for offline viewing. This helps reduce the amount of data traffic. I found it very easy to use with plenty of features to make the news easy read.
I learned the words from the Reuters Now articles. The first word is "recession." It means "a period when the economy of a country is not successful and conditions for business are bad" and "不況" in Japanese. Second word is "consortium." It means "an organization of several businesses or banks joining together as a group for a shared purpose" and "共同事業体" in Japanese.

I always watch Japanese news on TV, but I haven't had many chances to watch overseas news. So this time, I will talk about news apps that you can watch on your smartphone. I'm using BBC News. There is no Japanese translation in this app, and the narration and subtitles of the video are only in English. Some videos are long, but most of them are less than 5 minutes. Subtitles are attached to almost all videos, so if you can't understand by just listening, you can watch them smoothly by listening together with the subtitles. I recently saw an article and video titled "Covid booster vaccine plan to come in a few weeks – Matt Hancock". The latest news is being added more and more.
I found some new words in this app. First I found “immunity”, which means “the body’s ability to avoid or not to be affected by infection and disease”, and “免疫” in Japanese. Next is “ongoing”, it means “continuing to exist or develop”, and “継続している” in Japanese.
BBC News has only English and may be a little difficult, but I think it's a good idea to study English with this app because you can listen to native English , watch a lot of the recent news from overseas, and know the current situation outside Japan.

I have read English articles about my favorite artists like Ariana Grande on the Internet before, but I had never seen TV news in English using an app. This time I tried the apps BBC News. and CNN.
On BBC News, there are articles, videos and live broadcasts. This app shows Top Stories in several categories. You can also find the popular articles with a function that shows the top 10 in order of most read. The videos are easy to watch because they have English subtitles and summaries, and they’re short.
CNN has articles, videos and TV, and most videos are about two minutes long. And you can save the videos and articles, and this app puts a check mark if you watch or read it. CNN has the restart story and rewind 15 second button. You can see the categories listed at the top of the home screen so it’s very easy to find news.
I watched two news videos. First, I watched “Crocodile attack: ‘I was beating on its snout’” on BBC. I found some new words. First I found “flailing”. It means “to wave your arms or legs in an uncontrolled way”, and (両腕などを)振り回す in Japanese. Second is “sustained”. It means “continuing for a long time” and 持続させる, 続ける in Japanese. And I also watched “Summer concerts making a comeback” on CNN. I learned “massive”. It means “very large, solid, and heavy”, and 重くて大きい in Japanese.

I sometimes listen to Japanese TV news. but at first, I thought it would be difficult to listen to news in English when there are so many words I don't understand. I downloaded BBC News and CNN Breaking US & World News and watched English news.
The BBC News app has a search function that allows you to enter a word or phrase that interests you so you can see related news. In addition, the "popular" section shows you the most read articles and videos, so you can quickly see what news is attracting attention around the world. The CNN News app also has a search function that allows you to view the news you are interested in. There is also a save function that allows you to come back and read the news later. You can also add English subtitles to the videos, and the audio speed can be slowed down to make it easier to understand or speeded up if you are short on time.
The word I learned from the BBC News app is "geological". It means "the study of the rocks, soil etc. that make up the Earth, and of the way they have changed since the Earth was formed". In Japanese, it means "地質学の". The word I learned from CNN News is "guilty". It means "having done something that is a crime". "犯罪的な" In Japanese. [What were the titles of the news stories you watched?]
I think studying English from the news is very useful because you can learn specialized vocabulary and easily get to know not only Japanese but also world news.

I installed BBC News and NHK World apps on my smartphone. [With} these apps [I am} able to watch short news videos and read articles. BBC News handles news from all over the world, and it is easy to see the article category and region in Top Stories. On NHK World I can also watch world news, but it mainly specializes in Japanese news. There are also many articles about Japan for foreigners. As a result, I was able to learn about Japan's attractions. It seems that the newscasters on NHK speak slower than the ones on BBC News.
When I watched streaming TV news, I noticed some good points. First, with streaming TV news, it is easier to get information than from the radio. Radio information is only sound, but streaming TV news has sound, visual images and written sentences. Even if you can’t understand the English only by sound, the content is easy to understand. Also, the news video’s sentences are very short and clear, so that helps my understanding. Second, I can watch a news video then stop and repeat. I can’t do that on the radio. When I have a word I don’t understand, I can stop, look it up and review. It’s great for English learners.
When I was watching streaming TV news, I learned some words. For example, I learned the word “drop”. I already knew the word’s meaning like when something "falls down" (落下する)” but the article used "drop" to mean “decrease" (減少する)”. I didn’t know this meaning before. In the article, the sentence was “Child population drops for 39 straight years”. I also learned “pandemic”, .It means “a disease that affects people over a very large area or the whole world" (広範囲に及ぶ流行病). I often see this word in Corona virus articles.
I thought that these streaming news apps could be used easily. I recommend watching BBC News “One-minute World News”. On this program, you can see the hot news of the day all over the world in only one minute. And I recommend picking up the news that you are interested in and watching it. I’ll continue to watch streaming TV news.

I installed two news apps on my smart phone. NHK World TV and BBC News. NHK World TV reports mainly Japanese news, so I could hear some words I knew. BBC News is streaming from the UK and reports foreign news. It was easy to use because the articles were divided by region and genre. I watched them in the morning and night [each] day.
I watched a lot of news on two apps, but most of the news was about COVID-19. The article I was most interested in was “EU raises $8 billion for corona virus vaccine”. In summary, more than 30 countries promised a total of about $8 billion for this fund-raising event, Japan pledged about $234 million. I hope that a vaccine is developed soon. The audio on English news is fast for me, but there are subtitles, so I managed to understand.
I learned some English expressions. The first is "gunfire," it means “the act of shooting a gun” in English, and 銃撃 in Japanese. The second is "bilateral agreement." It means 二国間条約 in Japanese. The adjective “bilateral” means “having two sides or parts” and “affecting or undertaken by two parties”. In this case, the word means the latter. These expressions were used in an article about North Korea and South Korea.
I think that watching English news is very good for learning English. I can improve my English skills while learning about various incidents and getting more general knowledge from around the world. Also, the words and expressions used in the news are useful for learning TOEIC. I often watch Japanese news on TV,

I installed NHK World TV and Reuters TV on my iPhone and watched English news. These two apps are both for watching the news, but I could feel the difference between them. On NHK World TV, the contents of the news is described in the news summary section. Therefore, if you cannot hear or understand the English audio, you can check the summary for more information. On the other hand, Reuters TV shows the contents of the news with English subtitles, so reading the subtitles while listening makes it a little easier to understand what the newscaster is talking about. I think NHK World TV is a little easier to use than Reuters TV because the Japanese news is familiar. Also, the NHK newscaster speaks English a little more slowly, so I can catch the meaning better.
I was interested in the news on NHK World TV that Japan's Shinkansen technology will be used in the UK . The Shinkansen for the UK will be made with Hitachi technology. The train will be named "East" (東), or "Azuma" in Japanese. The Shinkansen will run at a speed of 200 kilometers an hour for a distance of about 930 kilometers from London to Scotland. I think it is really great that Japanese technology will be used overseas. I learned two expressions from this news. First, I learned "inauguration ceremony". The meaning is "就任式" in Japanese. I will have an inauguration ceremony when I graduate from university and start my new career, so I am glad to know the meaning before I get a job. The other expression I learned is "passenger carriage". It means "旅客輸送" in Japanese and "passenger train car". I examined the words "passenger transport" and "passenger carriage" and I think they are almost the same in the article I read. I will continue to watch English news, and try to get used to and understand English.

These days, I listen to NHK World TV. My mother recommended this app with my iPhone and said "It's very useful to learn English. Why don't you use this news app while you are on the bus?" So I downloaded it and started using it. This app is very good for learning not only what is happening in the world, but also what is happening in Japan. I watched a program which focused on The Great East Japan Earthquake. In the program there was a man who lost his family in the tsunami. He said "The most important things are to thank and appreciate the people who are special to you." I said it to myself that I would never forget these words. Outside of Japan there are many news stories which I didn't know about. For example, there was a terror incident in Iraq and many people were killed by the blast. When I watched this news, I heard a new word "suicide." It means "to kill yourself" or "自殺" in Japanese. I was scared and so sad after hearing this frightful news. This app is a very good tool for learning English because you can listen to English narration and see English subtitles at the same time. Japanese is translated into English so you can know how to say Japanese words in English. You can also know more about the global situation. The world is in your hand. |
